E-BIKE ACCESS

Advocating equal access for pedal-assist e-bikes.

Promoting safe, responsible riding of legal e-bikes.

E-Bike Access’ non-profit mission since 2020 has been to expand access for legal pedal-assist e-bikes and to promote safe responsible riding of legal e-bikes.  After our five year campaign, e-mountain bikes now have the same access as traditional bicycles on Mt. Tam watershed fire roads—the birthplace of mountain biking.

E-MTBs also have wide access on the Golden Gate National Recreation Area and Mt. Tam State Park. We are urging the other agency on Mt. Tam — the Marin County Parks and Open Space — officially to allow e-mountain bikes this year.

As part of this mission, we have exposed the dangerous and illegal “e-motos” in Marin and surrounding counties — the not-street legal devices giving e-bikes a bad name. We have worked with parents, schools and law enforcement agencies to curb these vehicles. Our work has been featured in the New York Times, the Mineta Transportation Institute report and beyond.

Much more is yet to be done, with your help . . . .

Throttle Devices: Dangerous, Mostly Illegal

The good name of “pedal-assist” e-bikes is threatened by the “throttle” devices favored by the youngest riders.  They are unsafe and most of them are illegal.  Here’s what E-Bike Access is doing about it and how you can help.
